Kohima to be connected with railway network by 2026 said Nagaland Transport, Civil Aviation & Railways Minister, P Paiwang Konyak. He also said that the 1st phase of the Dimapur-Dhansiripar to Kohima-Sechu rail line has been completed and the final phase is targeted to be completed by 2026.

According to reports, in Phase-I about 0-17 km has been fully completed while 65 percent of work is in progress for Phase 2 from 17-44 km, and 12 percent of progress is done in Phase III from 44-82.50 km.

Paiwang stated that the Dimapur- Dhansiripar to Kohima-Sechu rail line is a national project and the project is being monitored by Prime Minister’s Office. It will establish rail connectivity up to Moreh in Manipur.

He also stated that Shokhuvi Station, the 2nd rail station in Nagaland by inaugurated by Nagaland’s chief minister on August 26 this year.

The Dimapur-Dhansiripar-Kohima-Sechu rail line project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2024. However, it was delayed until 2026 due to land acquisition delays, a heavy and long monsoon season and a short working season, the lack of an approach road to the project site, and the work was also hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Recently BJP National President JP Nadda said that the Central govt is observing the northeast region and formulating various projects to connect it with mainstream India. Through Act East Policy many rail and road connections have been taken up.

 

On the other hand, additional seven projects worth Rs. 119.3 crore is under various development stage. Meanwhile earlier this year, the first passenger train engine arrives reached at the newly-constructed Khongshang railway station in Manipur’s Noney district as part of a trial run for the first passenger train.

The 111-kilometer Imphal-Jiribam railway line, which is being built at a cost of approximately 14,322 crore, is expected to be completed by December of next year. It will have 11 stations encompassing Manipur’s five districts. Imphal will be connected to the country’s board gauge network as part of the project. It involves hilly terrain and the construction of nearly 63 kilometres of tunnels, the longest of which is 10.28 kilometres.
