Bhupen Borah, the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), departed for Jorhat, following a police summon. In the aftermath of an unruly incident during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra headed by Rahul Gandhi, the president of the APCC is scheduled to appear before the Jorhat Police tomorrow.
Jorhat Police have summoned Borah to appear before them on January 31 in relation to a case involving the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which is suspected of deviating from its approved route in the district.
According to sources, the Congress demonstration deviated from the administration’s approved route. Subsequently, the Jorhat Police filed a complaint against Bhupen Borah in accordance with Sections 120B/115(II)/143/147 and Section 188/283/323/353 of the Indian Penal Code.
In the meantime, Assam politics have become more intense following the departure of many Congressmen to the BJP. Additionally, there is a possibility that Borah may be arrested tomorrow, according to sources.
The Rahul Gandhi-led yatra encountered numerous obstacles in Assam, and Borah was hurt twice: once on Tuesday when police stopped the yatra from entering Guwahati city, resulting in a brawl; and again two days earlier, when a group carrying BJP flags tried to attack yatra vehicles in Sonitpur. The yatra entered West Bengal on Thursday after leaving Assam.
Another complaint that was brought against yatra participants, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders included, in relation to the brawl that broke out when they attempted to breach barricades in order to reach Guwahati city has been moved to the Criminal Investigation Department.
