Sridevi was dubbed the country’s first female superstar. She ruled the industry at a time when superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, and Dharmendra were clearly dominant. She shattered the industry’s glass ceiling and established herself as a crowd-pleaser.

Sridevi, the enigma of the Hindi film industry, died five years ago. The undisputed queen of the silver screen left an audience with some unforgettable performances. She left too soon. But she will live on in the form of her on-screen characters.

A day before his late actress-wife Sridevi’s death anniversary, producer Boney Kapoor took a trip down memory lane and shared a throwback photo of her. The veteran actress died in February 2018 while in Dubai for a family wedding. Tragically, the late superstar died, leaving behind her husband Boney Kapoor and children Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor.

Janhvi Kapoor also paid a touching tribute to her mother. The actress posted a vintage photo of herself and Sridevi on Instagram. “I still look for you everywhere mumma, still do everything I do hoping I’m making you proud,” she captioned the photo. “Everywhere I go, everything I do begins and ends with you.”

Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan, who was born on August 13, 1963, adopted the stage name Sridevi after she began acting.

She debuted in the film ‘Thunaivan’ at the age of four. She appeared in 300 films during her five-decade career, with ‘Mom’ being her final. Her performance in the film earned her a posthumous National Film Award for Best Actress.

‘Jurassic Park’ director Steven Spielberg reportedly approached Sridevi about a role. However, she declined the role because it was not a glamorous one, and taking it would have meant taking a break from Bollywood. Sridevi was at the pinnacle of her career at the time and declined the offer.

Did you know Sridevi is a talented painter? She had created a painting of Sonam Kapoor as her ‘Saawariya’ character. It was scheduled to be auctioned off following Mohit Marwah’s wedding in Dubai. The actor, however, died a few days after the wedding.

She died a day before Divya Bharati, the actress who replaced her in ‘Laadla,’ celebrated her birthday. The day would also have marked the 35th anniversary of ‘Himmatwala,’ a film starring her and Jeetendra.
