Hyderabad: Doctors at NIMS Hospital Hyderabad have declared Dr Preethi, a medical student at Kakatiya Medical College, dead after she attempted suicide. According to a hospital bulletin, despite the best efforts of specialist doctors, she could not be saved and was declared dead at 9:10 p.m.
On Wednesday morning, a first-year postgraduate medical student at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Hanmakonda town, Warangal district, Telangana, allegedly attempted suicide due to harassment by seniors. According to reports, the student was in critical condition.

Doctors said on Thursday that the student, Daravath Preeti, was suffering from multiple organ failure and has brain problems.
Following her father’s complaint, Hanmakonda Police registered a suicide attempt case. Her father claims that a colleague named Saif, a PG medical second year student, harassed her while she was performing her duties at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGM).

She reportedly asked for permission to leave early on Wednesday, but Saif reportedly refused to even let her go for nature’s call.

According to reports, she gave herself a poisonous injection while on duty at the MGM at 6.30 a.m. After hospital staff noticed the student was unconscious, she was transferred to the emergency ward. She was transferred to NIMS hospital in Hyderabad after failing to respond to treatment at the hospital.

Dr. Divvela Mohandas, Principal of KMC, told reporters that they attempted to counsel Dr. Saif on the matter after the student’s father complained, but the attempt was futile. He stated that a committee was formed to investigate the matter thoroughly. He stated that the panel will submit the report to the police.
