Tripura Assembly Election 2023: According to sources, Pratima Bhoumik, the Union Minister of State for Empowerment and Social Justice, is being considered for the top position in the state by the BJP in order to “send the right message to the north-eastern region as well as to the entire nation” ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies won a landslide victory in the Northeast.
The party maintained its hold on power in Tripura, winning 32 of the state’s 60 assembly seats.
The next major question concerns Tripura’s leadership.
Before the election, incumbent Chief Minister Manik Saha was formally recognised as the saffron party’s CM face; however, now that the polls have closed, there is widespread speculation that the national leadership may reconsider that decision.

Nonetheless, the move may come later because Saha led the party to victory. According to a senior leader, if Bhoumik is chosen as the new CM, the BJP-led Centre may transfer Saha to the central government.
If elected, Bhoumik will be the region’s first female chief minister.

Manik Saha on the other hand, From joining the saffron party in 2016 to becoming chief minister last year in a brand renewal exercise, the 69-year-old dental surgeon-turned-politician has had a short but upward journey.
After the BJP’s ideological mentor, the RSS, discovered that the previous chief minister, Biplab Deb, had cost the party popularity due to his rash actions and poor law and order record, alienating many of the saffron party’s supporters, the party bigwigs decided on Saha, unpretentious politician over several other potential competitors, including union minister Pratima Bhowmik.
