Biplab Deb, the former Chief Minister of Tripura, won the byelection to the Rajya Sabha held on Thursday. The BJP leader received 43 votes, while Left Front candidate Bhanulal Saha received 15 votes.

The state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat became vacant after Manik Saha, the state’s current chief minister, resigned in June to run in an Assembly by-election.
On the other hand, Sudip Roy Barman, the lone Congress legislator, did not participate in the vote. Biplab Deb was recently made the BJP in charge of Haryana.

Meanwhile, The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, the BJP’s alliance partner, has seven MLAs, while the opposition CPM and Congress have 15 and one legislator, respectively. One IPFT MLA has been removed from office.
Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb filed his nomination as a BJP candidate for the September 22 by-poll to the northeastern state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat on September 12. When Deb submitted his papers, he was accompanied by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee.

On 9th September, Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb was named BJP in charge of Haryana. While MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma, who’s from Uttar Pradesh, was made the in-charge for Tripura. Biplab Deb had earlier served for the party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Delhi.
