A man from Dhubri, Assam raped his 11-year-old niece. A Dhubri district court in Assam sentenced the man to life in prison for raping his minor niece. On Wednesday, the Dhubri Additional Sessions Judge-cum Special Judge, POCSO, found the 31-year-old man guilty of raping the 11-year-old girl and sentenced him to life in prison under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The accused was also fined Rs 1 lakh by the court.
The court stated in its order that given the “nature of the offense,” the accused does not deserve leniency in punishment. The convicted person must reflect on the heinous act he committed. He must reflect on his actions while in custody and recognize the value of human life.”

The girl’s mother filed an FIR with the Tamarhat police station, accusing the man of luring her daughter to his house, raping her, and sending her away with a Rs 100 note and a packet of chips.

The minor returned home in tears, telling her mother about the incident. The mother and other family members went to the accused person’s house, and he threatened to kill them if any charges were brought against him in connection with the incident.

In 2019, the figure was 30,025, up from 27,687 in 2018. Assam had 46 cases of murder with rape or gang rape in 2021, two more than Uttar Pradesh.
