Holi, which is celebrated every March, is one of the most important Hindu festivals of all time. This colourful festival has two meanings: first, it commemorates an important mythical event, and second, it heralds the end of winter and the arrival of spring. This two-day festival will take place on the Purnima (full moon night) of the Phalguna month and the day after, on March 8, 2023, according to the Gregorian calendar. The night before is known as Holika Dahan, and the next morning is known as Dhulendi.

History of Holi Festival:
The Puranas claim that the story of Holi predates even the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Hiranyakashipu, a powerful demon, ruled Satyuga (one of the four eras in Hindu cosmology). His son, Prahlad, was a devout follower of Lord Vishnu, which enraged the demon king. He devised several methods to murder his son, all of which failed.

One method was for his sister, Holika, to sit with Prahlad in a fire because she wore a magical cloak that made her impervious to the burning flames. However, while they were sitting in the fire, Lord Vishnu intervened, causing the fire to burn Holika while sparing Prahlad. The locals celebrated the next morning because they had finally defeated the demon.
