RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ becomes 1st Indian song to be nominated for the Oscars

The song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’ has been nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars. This is the first time a Telugu song has been nominated for  Academy Award. The collective efforts of the entire team of artists led by director SS Rajamouli resulted in something that received international praise and was nominated for an Academy Award for best song.

It is a happy occasion for all Indians that SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ has been nominated for the 95th Academy Awards. After previously creating history by winning the coveted Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, the film received recent accolades when ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the magnum opus was nominated for the 2023 Oscars, making it the first Indian song to achieve this rare feat.

Other songs that were nominated in the Best Original Song category at Academy Awards this year include ‘Applause’ from ‘Tell it Like a Woman’, ‘Hold my hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Lift me up’ from ‘Black Panther: The Wakanda Forever.’

Rahul Sipligunj and Kala Bhairava perform ‘Naatu Naatu. The song features Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the roles of Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, respectively. The combination of music director M.M. Keeravani’s thumping music, Chandrabose’s lyrics, the voices of Rahul Sipligunj and Kala Bhairava, and choreography by Prem Rakshith resulted in a fantastic song that served as the icing on the cake.
