Assam: According to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the authorities involved in the eviction drive at Guwahati’s Silsako Beel will soon clear out many hectares of land allegedly belonging to AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.

Authorities are reportedly planning to clear land of encroachment allegedly owned by Ajmal at the Silsako Beel in Guwahati on the third day of the eviction drive.

It is worth noting that on March 1, a massive eviction drive in Guwahati’s Silsako beel entered its third day.

According to sources, the Assam government will conduct an eviction drive in Deepor Beel, which is located southwest of Guwahati.

Assam Minister Ashok Singhal, according to sources, also conducted an aerial survey of the locations.

This follows a massive eviction drive in Guwahati’s Silsako beel, which entered its third day on March 1.

The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) began an eviction drive on February 27 with the goal of making Guwahati flood-free and benefiting at least 15 lakh city residents.

Around 3000 armed personnel have been deployed at the site to prevent any untoward incidents or encroacher resentment.

Silsako Beel has approximately 1800 bighas of land, of which 1200 bighas are under the control of encroachers, and those within 100 metres between the water channels on the periphery of Silsako Beel up to Narengi were evicted on February 27.

Some Silsako Beel residents have been paying property taxes to Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) for several years and have GMC holding numbers.

The GMDA-led drive has left many people angry and dissatisfied with the government’s unjust treatment of the area’s indigenous residents.

Notably, on February 28, a man committed suicide because he was afraid his house would be demolished.
