As the nation continues to cope with India’s defeat in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 finals, Kapil Dev, the captain who led the team to victory in the 1983 World Cup, remarked on Tuesday that one shouldn’t assume a setback will have a lifelong impact.

Addressing the media, the former Cricketer expressed, “I think sports will have to move on. It’s unrealistic to presume that a setback will be carried. I think it is up to the fans, sports will have to move on. You have to plan for the next day. We can’t reverse the past, but relentless effort is the essence of being a sportsman.

“They exhibited fantastic cricket. Although they fell short in the final challenge, the true essence of sportsmanship lies in learning from mistakes,” he remarked.

Following India’s loss in the final hurdle, having maintained an unbeaten record throughout the campaign, Kapil Dev used his Instagram platform to commend the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, and offer words of encouragement for the future that awaits him.

“You’ve performed like champions, boys. Keep your spirits high. While the trophy may have been the ultimate goal in your minds, you’ve still emerged as winners. India takes pride in you,” he shared on his Instagram story.

“Rohit, you are a master at what you do. You have a lot of success awaiting you. It’s tough I know but keep your spirits up. India is with you,” he added.
