After a video surfaced showing a woman from Assam seeking Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s intervention for her rescue, Assam Police Director General (DGP) GP Singh stated on Tuesday that the state police are actively overseeing the situation.
According to sources, a woman, originally from Bihpuria in Lakhimpur, has sought assistance from the Veer Lachit Sena and the Assam Chief Minister to rescue her from her husband, Amarchand Rathi. She alleges that her in-laws in Rajasthan pose a threat to her life.
The woman, in the video, revealed that her paternal uncle had married her to Amarchand Rathi after receiving a substantial amount of money from her husband. At the time of the wedding, she was only 16 years old, while Amarchand, who was 37 years old, married her. Lacking awareness at that time, Amarchand took her to Rajasthan after the wedding, where he and his parents subjected her to brutal assault.
She further revealed that the couple has a daughter together and they lost their second child in a miscarriage.
Following the emergence of the video, the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) stated that the woman had travelled to Rajasthan in October of this year and filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Nokha Police Station. GP Singh posted on X about the rescue operation.
