Chetan Sharma, the BCCI’s chief selector, has decided to resign, according to the news agency ANI on Friday. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, accepted Chetan Sharma’s resignation. “BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma resigns from his post. He submitted his resignation to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who accepted it,” ANI reported. Chetan Sharma, who was reinstated as chief selector following India’s bittersweet campaign at the T20 World Cup in Australia, got into trouble after ZEE Media recorded him spilling insider information in a sting operation.

Sharma revealed that there was a “ego clash” between former Indian captain Virat Kohli and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. When Ganguly was in charge, batting legend Kohli stepped down as India’s captain. When Kohli stepped down as India’s captain, Ganguly claimed the BCCI had asked him to reconsider his decision. However, Kohli contradicted Ganguly by revealing that the decision was deemed a “progressive step” at the time by the apex Indian cricket board. In 2022, veteran opener Rohit was named India’s captain across all formats.

In addition to discussing internal discussions involving head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit, chief selector Sharma stated that he was at odds with management over Bumrah’s return. After suffering a back injury, the Indian pacer has struggled to return to the national team. Pacer Bumrah will most likely miss the rest of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The star pacer is also questionable for the World Cup-year One Day International (ODI) series against Australia.
