Viacom18 has won Women’s IPL Media Rights For Rs 951 Crore

Women’s IPL Media Rights: Viacom18, the media, and entertainment conglomerate, has entered the Indian Premier League picture (IPL). According to the most recent news, Viacom18 has won the media rights to the women’s IPL for the next five years. Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, made the announcement via Twitter. Viacom18 won these rights for a whopping Rs 951 crore, according to Shah’s post.

This means that if the total amount remains constant, it would be Rs 7.09 crore per year. With this announcement, Viacom18 will now have exclusive media rights to the women’s IPL from 2023 to 2027.

 

According to reports, the country’s top three broadcasters and OTT platforms will bid for the rights. The top three bidders for the WIPL Media Rights are Disney+ Star, Sony-ZEE Combine, and Viacom18. Amazon Prime, FanCode, Times Internet, Google, and Discovery have also obtained tender documents.

“Congratulations Viacom18 for winning the Women’s IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in BCCI and BCCI Women. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for the next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket,” Shah tweeted.

On January 25, the BCCI will reveal the five Women IPL franchises.

According to reports, ten media companies bid on the media rights auction, including Disney Star, Sony Network, Viacom18, Amazon Prime, Fancode, Times Internet, and Google.

Viacom18, the Reliance-backed network, will launch Sports18 in 2022. JioCinema, its other arm, will stream the FIFA World Cup in November and December 2022.

Viacom18 Media has secured exclusive media rights in India and the subcontinent region to broadcast the next Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris in 2024.

According to a joint statement issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Viacom18 Media, a joint venture of Viacom and Network18 Group, it has also received non-exclusive rights to the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024.

Viacom18, which is backed by Reliance Industries, announced on Wednesday that its platforms have become one of the largest sporting destinations in India following the acquisition of IPL digital rights for the seasons 2023-2027.
