Another century for ‘run-machine’ Virat Kohli in another match against Sri Lanka. On Sunday, the talismanic hitter hit his 46th ODI century in the series finale against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum. Kohli went on to break two of Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘all-time records’ in the process. Kohli now has more ODI centuries at home than Tendulkar, and he also holds the record for most tonnes against a single team in the 50-over style of international cricket.

When Kohli hit triple digits in the opening match of the series against Sri Lanka in Guwahati, he equaled Tendulkar’s record. Kohli needed only 99 innings to reach his 20th ODI century on home soil, whereas Sachin needed 160 innings.
Kohli has now surpassed Tendulkar’s record of 21 home centuries with a century in the third ODI.
Kohli also broke Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds against a single team. Tendulkar and Kohli shared the lead with 9 hundreds each against a single nation. Kohli now has ten centuries against Sri Lanka, the highest by any batter against a single team in the history of the format.
Virat also has nine centuries against the West Indies, while Tendulkar has nine hundreds versus Australia. Kohli has already surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of eight hundreds against Sri Lanka in the first ODI.
Earlier in the game, Kohli passed the legendary Mahela Jayawardene to become the fifth highest-scoring hitter in ODI history. Kohli did so after passing the 62-run milestone in the match. Jayawardene has scored 12,650 runs for Sri Lanka in 50-over cricket.
Kohli has 46 ODI centuries, 27 test tonnes, and one T20 century to his name.
Virat Kohli’s stunning performance led Team India to a massive score of 390 for 5 against Sri Lanka in 50 overs. In addition to him, Shubman Gill earned his second ODI century, scoring 116 runs off 97 balls. Skipper Rohit Sharma also scored 42 runs off 49 balls.
