The Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), is primarily intended for use in high-altitude environments. Officials said on Sunday that it will be inducted into the IAF at a ceremony in Jodhpur in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.

The name of the helicopter, which has so far been dubbed the LCH, is expected to be revealed by the Defence Minister. The minister is also scheduled to fly in one of the helicopters.

Over the next few years, the light combat helicopter will serve as the foundation of attack helicopter formations in both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. The 5.8-tonne twin-engine helicopter has already passed various weapons firing tests, according to officials.

According to HAL, the light combat helicopter is the only attack helicopter in the world that can land and take off at an altitude of 5,000 metres (16400 feet) while carrying a significant load of weapons and fuel, meeting the specific requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.
