Assam Meghalaya Border: Dismissing his Assam counterpart’s claim, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated in the assembly on Tuesday that Mukroh village on the disputed inter-state border, where six people were killed in a violent clash last year, is a part of the hill state in Assam Meghalaya Border clash.
He stated that Mukroh residents benefit from various government schemes.
Sangma’s remarks come just weeks after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared in the assembly that Mukroh is a part of his state.
“I have stated unequivocally that Mukroh is a part of Meghalaya. That is supported by facts and figures. Other statements may have been made, but our position is unequivocal “Sangma informed the audience.

Assam and Meghalaya Border conflict:
“Mukroh is located in the West Jaintia Hills district, according to the census code. Mukroh residents voted in the recent Meghalaya assembly elections. The village has 1,500 registered voters, two polling places, and is part of the Mokaiaw constituency “he said in response to a follow-up question from Voice of the People’s Party MLA Adelbert Nongrum.
He stated that Mukroh has a village employment council with over 500 MGNREGA beneficiaries.
The CM stated that the village has two fair price shops with over 2.200 beneficiaries, and that the Meghalaya government has built a school and a health centre.
Other central schemes, such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Grameen) or PMAYG, Jal Jeevan, and Swacch Bharat Mission (SVM), according to Sangma, have also been implemented in the village.
Six people were killed, five from Mukroh and one from Assam, in a clash along the disputed border on November 22, last year, after a truck carrying “illegally felled timber” was allegedly intercepted by forest personnel from the neighbouring state.
