In the midst of a diplomatic controversy between India and the Maldives over insulting comments made by Maldivian officials during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the islands, the Israeli embassy in India made a pitch on Monday to boost tourism in Lakshadweep.

It also included images of Lakshadweep’s beautiful shores and aquatic life. The Maldivian ambassador to India was called to the ministry of external affairs on Monday and expressed serious concern on the comments made by several Maldivian ministers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

Following Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, the Maldivian government suspended three of its deputy ministers on Sunday, citing their criticism of Modi’s post on X and their implied attempt to position the Union Territory as a tourism destination apart from the Maldives.

The foreign ministry of the Maldives stated that although the government is aware of “derogatory remarks” made against foreign leaders on social media, the opinions expressed are personal and do not always reflect the views of the nation.

The Israeli embassy posted on X, “For those who are yet to witness the pristine and majestic underwater beauty of #lakshadweepislands, here are a few pictures showing this island’s enchanting allure”.
