On January 8, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria declared that a significant 19.89% of the state’s GDP comes from the agriculture and related sectors. During the Livestock and Poultry Show 2024, Kataria emphasised the vital role played by the livestock and poultry industry, which accounts for 5.30% of the GDP.
Governor Kataria encouraged youth and farmers in the area to take advantage of different income-boosting programmes, stressing the government’s unwavering support for them. Numerous startups have emerged in the state as a result of this support, encouraging independence and long-term growth.
Addressing the community, Kataria emphasised that in order to increase farmers’ income, contemporary technology must be incorporated into important industries including dairy, poultry, and cattle husbandry. He asked Assam to replicate the extraordinary progress that has been made in agricultural and milk production in states like Gujarat and Punjab.
The fact that Assam is currently the nation’s top state for pig production and has made impressive progress in poultry production leads to great satisfaction. The state is preparing for future developments in the fields of milk and egg production,” Governor Kataria said.
The government’s ambitious goal of generating 10 lakh litres of milk a day under the Assam Dairy Development Scheme is a testament to its dedication to boost dairy production. Governor Kataria urged the relevant agencies to establish clusters in order to organise the unorganised dairy industry and promote the sustainable selling of milk in the state.
Governor Kataria expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts to double farmers’ income and cited important programmes such as the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), National Livestock Mission (NLM), Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH and DC) programme, and Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM). In order to guarantee a strong and sustainable growth trajectory for agriculture and related sectors in Assam, he advised farmers to take advantage of these incentives.
Taking to his micro-blogging site X, he posted, “I am delighted to be part of the closing ceremony of the Livestock & Poultry Show 2024 in Guwahati”.
