In response to the recent breach of safety protocols, the government has chosen to provide the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) with “comprehensive” security of the Parliament building complex in reaction to the most recent violation of safety procedures.

The CISF, functioning as a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), is responsible for the security of various Central Government ministry buildings in Delhi, in addition to safeguarding installations in the nuclear and aerospace sectors, 67 civil airports, and the Delhi Metro.

According to reports, the CISF will now put strict security measures in place that are similar to airport procedures, guaranteeing strong security against possible threats. The CISF will be in charge of entry control for both the new and old Parliament facilities under the new security arrangements. The security protocols will be similar to those used at airports, including body frisking using portable detectors and careful examination of personal items using X-ray equipment.

Interestingly, part of the security procedure involves scanning belts, heavy jackets, and shoes; to pass through the scanner, people must set these items on trays. This action represents a change from the former procedure, in which Delhi Police officers frisked guests entering the Parliament premises.

This development follows the December 13th, parliament security breach, in which two individuals leaped from the Lok Sabha chamber’s visitors gallery and unleashed colored smoke from canisters. The incident happened 22 years after the terror assault on Parliament in 2001.

In the meantime, two more people were held and six people were taken into custody by the Delhi Police about the case. Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also initiated a probe into the matter with members from other security agencies and experts.

The establishment of the CISF GBS occurred in the aftermath of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament. Subsequently, it was assigned the responsibility of securing central government structures in the national capital, including the North and South blocks, Cabinet Secretariat, Vigyan Bhawan, CBI headquarters, UPSC building, and the CGO complex.

The GBS is mandated to uphold a heightened level of security, encompassing contingency response, access control, and the implementation of anti-sabotage checks.
