The dissident faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent) has criticized Assam Police for indiscriminately apprehending and holding youths for interrogation regarding the recent pair of grenade explosions orchestrated by the group in the state.
In a public statement, the organization stated that Assam Police arrested ‘innocent youths’ for interrogation from various regions of Assam, including Guwahati, suspecting their involvement in the recent military operation conducted by the group.
The armed group claimed in their communication that the youths they apprehended and arrested have no connection whatsoever with ULFA-I or any recent military operations conducted by the outfit.
ULFA-I stated in their public letter, “The Assam Police’s attempt to achieve a sense of complacency through the arrest of these innocent youths is, in reality, an effort to conceal their culpability and shortcomings. Such actions by the Assam Police are worthy of condemnation”.

These arrests follow 3 consecutive blasts in recent weeks, held after the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, publicly claimed that the law and order situation in the state had improved and informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Also, DGP GP Singh’s commitment to wipe out terrorism in the state has triggered miscreants.

Again, on November 22, a grenade detonated outside an Army camp in Dirak, Tinsukia district, causing no reported casualties.
