Andhra Pradesh: During the Ram Navami celebrations at Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple in Duva village, Tanuku Mandal, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, a fire breaks out.
On March 30, a pandal and the exterior portion of Lord Venu Gopala Swamy temple’s Dwaja Sthambam (pillar) were gutted in a fire during Srirama Navami celebrations at Duvva village under Tanuku police in West Godavari district. The pandal was made of palm leaves.

The pandal caught fire after a firework fragment dropped on the temple during Lord Rama and Sita’s celestial wedding. “The firecracker came from beyond the temple grounds, where villagers lit it as part of the Srirama Navami celebrations in the hamlet,” said B. Srinivasa Rao, West Godavari District Fire Officer.

A large fire broke out at the Venugopala Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh during Ram Navami celebrations after the roof of a temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore caved in on pilgrims, leaving several persons thought trapped and rescue attempts underway. This comes as the entire country offers prayers and performs pujas to commemorate Ram Navami.
There have been no reported injuries.
On Thursday morning, the Fire Service raced to the scene and stopped the fire from spreading. The celestial wedding was afterwards called off by the people. Hundreds of devotees attended the heavenly wedding within the temple, and they were all warned and evacuated. The police have opened an inquiry and have lodged a case.
Devotees assembled on the temple grounds noticed the fire and withdrew, avoiding any injury.Once the pandal caught fire, panic and mayhem reigned as worshippers attempted to flee the temple grounds.
