The news that Aanand Rai’s war epic Gorkha has been shelved has made headlines. Gorkha, directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, was to shed light on Major General Ian Cardozo’s supreme heroics during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Akshay Kumar announced his collaboration with director-producer Aanand L Rai on the occasion of Dussehra in 2021. Major General Ian Cardozo, the iconic war hero of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army (5th Gorkha Rifles), was also the first war-disabled officer of the Indian Army to command a battalion and a brigade.

Akshay also revealed his first look as a war hero, and in the posters, he appeared fierce as a soldier about to march into battle with the enemy. According to recent reports, the film has been shelved and Akshay has walked out due to factual errors in the story.

Aanand L Rai, Gorkha’s producer, has now confirmed that the film has been postponed due to a few ‘technical and factual’ issues. “There are so many technical things that we need to take care of before we do the film. We also need to work on the film’s factual details. As a result, it will require the time it deserves. “We can’t rush it,” Rai said .

However, the claim that Akshay Kumar “left the project” is false. After working together on Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan, producers Aanand and Akshay mutually agreed to put the project on hold until the factual ambiguities are resolved.

Aanand confirms that the Gorkha project will be revisited at some point.
