Meghalaya: On January 5, three more sitting MLAs resigned from the 11th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, two from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and one from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), and are expected to join the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The three MLAs, Hamletson Dohling (Mylliem) of the PDF, Jason S Mawlong (Umsning) of the HSPDP, and Samlin Malngiang (Sohiong) of the PDF, handed over their resignation letters to Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh at the Assembly Secretariat in Khyndai Lad here.
So far, ten legislators have resigned ahead of the elections, reducing the House’s strength from 60 to 50.
Dohling revealed to reporters that all three of them have decided to join the NPP in the coming days.

On Thursday, Hamletson Dohling and Jason S Mawlong of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and Samlin Malngiang of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) submitted their resignations to Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
So far, ten legislators have resigned ahead of the elections, reducing the House’s strength from 60 to 51.
Dohling, a former minister, stated that they will join the NPP. He also stated that he resigned at the request of his constituents. “I have to listen to them as a leader.”

With the resignation of SG Esmatur Mominin on Wednesday, the NPP lost a third lawmaker. Previously, Benedict Marak and Fairlene Sangma left the NPP of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
So far, 11 MLAs have resigned from the Assembly. Ferlin CA. Sangma, Himalaya S. Shangpliang, Samuel Sangma, Ampareen. Lyngdoh, Mohendro Rapsang, Kimfa S. Marbaniang, and SG. Esmatur are the authors. Mominin had previously resigned from their positions as MLAs.
Following the wave of resignations, the NPP now has 20 MLAs, the Trinamool Congress has 11, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has 8, the BJP, PDF, Congress, and Independents each have two, and the HSPDP, NCP, and KHNAM each have one.
