PAN-Aadhaar Link: The Income Tax (I-T) Department has announced that PAN (Permanent Account Number) cards that are not linked to Aadhaar will be rendered ineffective beginning April 1, 2023. The tax department has requested that people link their Aadhaar numbers to their PAN numbers by March 31, 2022.

According to the Income-tax Act of 1961, it is mandatory for all Permanent Account Number holders who are not exempt to link their Permanent Account Number with their Aadhaar before March 31, 2023, according to the tax department.

The department also stated that the unlinked Permanent Account Number will become inactive on April 1, 2023. “The deadline is quickly approaching. Don’t put it off any longer; link it now! “.

The PAN card, which is required for a variety of financial transactions such as opening bank accounts, depositing money into them, opening Demat accounts, and buying and selling real estate, will be considered invalid if it is not linked to Aadhaar.

The Income Tax Department recently said in a Tweet, “As per Income-tax Act, 1961, the last date for linking Permanent Account Number with Aadhaar is 31.3.2023, for all Permanent Account Number holders who do not fall under the exempt category, failing which the unlinked Permanent Account Number shall become inoperative.”

The I-T Department also stated that the unlinked PAN would cease to exist on April 1, 2023. “The end of the world is rapidly approaching. Don’t put it off any longer! “.

Link PAN With Aadhaar Before April 1:

Once linked to Aadhaar, the deactivated PAN will become active.

A person can link a PAN card with Aadhaar by paying a fee of Rs 1000 on the tax department’s website, www.incometax.gov.in, under the new Section 234H of the Income-tax Act.

The Permanent Account Number card is a picture identification method that is accepted by all Indian government and non-government agencies. The income tax department requires linking Aadhaar and Permanent Account Number cards because the former is biometric-based and cannot be obtained using any other identifying paper.

If an individual’s Permanent Account Number Card becomes inoperative, they will be liable to all the consequences under the I-T Act and will face a number of consequences, according to a circular issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on March 30.

Furthermore, the individual will be unable to file an I-T return; pending returns will not be processed; pending refunds will not be issued to inoperative Permanent Account Number s; pending proceedings, such as defective returns, will be unable to be completed once the Permanent Account Number is inoperative; and tax will be deducted at a higher rate.
