Nitin Gadkari Allots Rs 2100 Crore for Road Infrastructure Development in Assam

To enhance road infrastructure in Assam, Union Minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari has earmarked a total of Rs. 2185.43 crores, with the aim of improving connectivity.

To enhance road infrastructure in Assam, Union Minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari has earmarked a total of Rs. 2185.43 crores, with the aim of improving connectivity.

The union minister announced the sanction of Rs. 1338.61 crore for the expansion of NH-17 into a four-lane road with paved shoulders, extending from Near Mowatari before Chapar Bypass to the Tulungia section of the Bilasipara-Guwahati corridor.

Spanning a total distance of 26.82 kilometres, the road improvement initiative seeks to enhance connectivity between Bilasipara and Tulungia, constituting a crucial component of the Bilasipara-Guwahati corridor.

The minister mentioned that the road improvement would enhance accessibility to Western Assam and Lower Assam through NH-27, promoting connectivity to neighbouring states like Meghalaya and West Bengal.

Additionally, an extra Rs. 846.82 crore was granted for widening and upgrading the Tamenglong-Mahur section of NH-137 into two lanes with paved shoulders.

Encompassing a distance of 19.68 kilometres, this initiative is set to improve connectivity from the East-West corridor in Assam to Imphal through NH-27, as stated by the minister. 

Simultaneously, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed his appreciation to the union minister and the prime minister for allocating funds to enhance the state’s road infrastructure.

Expressing his sincere thanks, CM Sarma stated, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Hon’ble PM and the Hon’ble Minister of MoRTH. The consistent attention to our region has resulted in record infrastructure projects totaling ₹3 lakh crore for the entire North East since 2014. With the approval of these crucial projects, we move closer to our objective of delivering top-notch roads for Assam”.
