All BTC Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) Demand Justice for Student Leader Lafiqul Islam. On Tuesday ABMSU demonstrated a huge protest. The protestors go on a 2-hour strike in front of The Parbatjhora Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office in BTR with nine demands.

Human rights defender and student leader Lafiqul Islam was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on August 1, 2017, at around 4.30 pm in the Kokrajhar district. Lafiqul was the president of the All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU).

According to reports, Lafiqul was one of the leaders who arranged state-wide protests and rallies against the police shooting death of Mr. Yaqub Ali on June 30, 2017, in Assam’s Goalpara district.

Mr. Ahmed was in a tile shop in Titaguri, Kokrajhar, on August 1, 2017. Around 4.30 p.m., two armed miscreants started shooting at him. He died instantly. Mr. Subhangkar Chakravarty, a member of the staff, was shot multiple times during this incident.

But even today the killers of Lafikul Islam have not been arrested by the BTR and the state government and the student body ABMSU held a 2-hour strike in front of the office of the sub-divisional magistrate of Parbatjhora.

The strike was also attended by ABMSU President Maidul Islam, Vice President Soleiman Ali, and General Secretary Abu Jower Mandal. On the other hand, protesters handed over a memorandum to assistant sub divisional magistrate Priyankar Priyam Deka.

He was working to defend the rights of migrant Muslim communities in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), an autonomous administrative division in northern Assam.

According to reports, ABMSU has protested the forcible evacuation of Muslims from government land throughout the state and has demanded compensation and rehabilitative services for Assam’s internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has released information on three suspects four years after the murder of Lafiqul Islam Ahmed, an influential minority student leader. It has also announced Rs. 2 lakh reward for information leading to their capture.
