Assam: On Wednesday, two people were killed by lightning in two different locations in Assam as thunderstorms struck different parts of the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for rain and thunderstorms in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from yesterday until March 17.
According to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, one person was killed in Darrang district and another in Kamrup (Metro).

In the first incident, Majuruddin, a 60-year-old man from Darrang’s Kharpori village, was killed after being struck by lightning.
According to the ASDMA, a minor girl, Mamta Begum, 13, died as a result of a lightning strike in the Satgaon area of Guwahati.

One or two spells of light to moderate thunderstorms with hail are expected to occur in Guwahati over the next two days, according to the Regional Metrological Centre.
