Assam: Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the Joint Commissioner of Guwahati Police, has been transferred and appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in a major reshuffle in the Assam Police (Admn).

He has been designated as the DIG (Admn) with effect from the date he assumed command and until further orders.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta has been relieved of his duties as Guwahati’s Joint Commissioner of Police.

Mahanta was primarily assigned as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Armed Police), Assam, for the sole purpose of drawing pay and allowances.

In the interest of public service, Shri Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS (SPS-2007), Joint Commissioner of Police, Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, who was substantially posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Armed Police), Assam for the purpose of drawal of pay and allowances only, is transferred and posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Admn.), Assam against existing vacancy with effect from today.”

On December 2022, On Friday, IPS Diganta Borah took over as the new Guwahati Police Commissioner.

IPS Borah has taken over as Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam from IPS Harmeet Singh.

Harmeet Singh has been assigned to the Assam Police headquarters in Ulubari as the Special Director General of Police (Administration).

Borah stated during his assumption of responsibility that he will work for the welfare of the people and implement all crime-prevention measures in Guwahati.
