Assam: The Nalbari Medical College has been approved for 100 MBBS seats by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on Wednesday.
CM Sarma described the establishment of four new medical colleges in one year as a historic achievement for the state.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “We’ve reached another milestone. Delighted to share that Nalbari Medical College has been recognized by National Medical Commission with an approval to admit 100 MBBS students.”
“It’s a historic accomplishment for Assam with 4 new medical colleges being set up in just one year!” he added.

In a statement, State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that with the latest approval, the total number of MBBS seats in the state will rise to 1,500.
According to him, the Assam government has set a goal of increasing the number of medical colleges in the state to 24 by 2026.

Previously, the NMC approved 100 MBBS seats at Nagaon Medical College.
The medical college was approved by the NMC as the 11th in Assam and the second in 2023.
The total number of MBBS seats in the state has now risen to 1,400.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted the news, saying, “The Letter of Intent issued by @NMC IND to Nagaon Medical College for 100 MBBS seats will help us improve healthcare. It is the 11th medical college in the state to receive a Letter of Intent, and the second this year after Kokrajhar Medical College.
On the other hand, The Nagaon Medical College has been approved for 100 MBBS seats by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The medical college is the 11th in Assam to be approved by the NMC, and the second in 2023.
Following this approval, Nagaon Medical College will begin MBBS classes with an enrollment of 100 students for the academic year 2023-24.
The total number of MBBS seats in the state has now risen to 1,400.
