Twitter API Paid Version: Twitter’s Application Programming Interface ( Twitter API), which was previously free, is now rumoured to cost a whopping $42,000 per month (Rs 34 lakh), according to a tech outlet earlier this month. According to documents shared by tech publication Wired, the developer community, researchers, and academia who have been using the Twitter API for free for years may now have to pay.

Researchers and concerned professionals use API to access historical data on the social networking site. There has been speculation that the Twitter API will be placed behind a paywall, similar to many other services that Musk has begun charging for in order to generate revenue for his newly acquired company as per reports.

Musk announced in the first week of February that API access would be restricted. Later, the decision was postponed until February 15. “In response to feedback, Twitter will enable a light, write-only API for bots providing good, free content,” Musk stated in a tweet on February 5.

According to the report, Twitter now offers three plans, the first of which is the Small Package, which provides access to 50 million tweets for $42,000 per month. Packages with access to 100 million and 200 million tweets, respectively, are expected to be more expensive per month.

According to Wired, access to Twitter’s once-free Application Programming Interface (API) could cost users tens of thousands of dollars per month depending on the enterprise package they choose.

According to documents obtained by Wired, the Small Package will provide Twitter subscribers with access to 50 million tweets for $42,000 per month. A more expensive package will provide them with access to 100 million tweets for $125,000 per month or 200 million tweets for $210,000 per month.
