Taking over as Chief Secretary in September 2022, Pawan Borthakur succeeded Jishnu Barua, who retired upon reaching the superannuation age. Borthakur, an IAS officer of the 1989 batch from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, originates from Kaliabor in Central Assam’s Nagaon district.
