A Guwahati Court has summoned former National Register of Citizens(NRC) State Coordinator and IAS officer Prateek Hajela to appear in court on November 17.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, No 1 of Kamrup Metro district, along with the managing director of WIPRO Limited and Utpal Hazarika, proprietor of Integrated System and Service(ISS) has issued Summons to Hajela to appear before the Court on November 17.
The summon was based on a criminal revision petition (36/2023), filed by film producer and businessman Luit Kumar Barman. Barman Files Criminal Revision Petition against Hajela for alleged Rs 260 Crore Corruption in updating the NRC in Assam.
In the petition, Barman mentioned two key witnesses, retired IAS officer Hitesh Dev Sarma and Assam Public Works(APW) president Abhijit Sharma.
The petition alleges that the three accused persons collectively washed off a significant amount of public money, approximately Rs 260 crore, in the name of updating NRC, as revealed in the 2020 report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on Social, Economic, and General Sectors.
Prateek Hajela, who was on Inter Cadre Deputation for three years, despite his request for an extension beyond November 12, 2022, on personal grounds, both the Governments of Assam and India’s Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) rejected it. Following DoPT instructions, the Government of Madhya Pradesh released him to the parent cadre on March 31, 2023. However, he did not appear in Assam even after the expiration of the Deputation.
