The Assam government presented a Rs 935.23 crore deficit budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 on Thursday, announcing funds to promote micro-entrepreneurship and new recruitments in various departments. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog said during the budget presentation in the assembly that the government will invest Rs 5,000 crore to “transform” over 2 lakh unemployed youths into job creators.

“After adding the receipt of Rs 1,80,298.83 crore under the public account and Rs 2,000 crore under contingency fund, the aggregate receipts amount to Rs 3,21,742.71 crore.

“Taking into account the expenditure of Rs 1,79,326.48 crore under the public account and Rs 2,000 crore under the contingency fund, the total expenditure for the year is estimated to be Rs 3,21,081.75 crore,” she stated in her budget speech.
According to Neog, the estimated transactions for the year will result in a surplus of Rs 660.96 crore.
Assam’s state government has decided to reduce motor vehicle taxes by 2% for citizens who purchase electronic vehicles, according to finance minister Ajanta Neog.
The budget proposes to build infrastructure to make Assam a regional healthcare hub by 2026.
It also introduces the “Ashtadash Mukutar Unnoyonee Maala scheme,” which aims to increase self-employment in the private sector.
Two lakh unemployed youths from BPL families and low-income households are expected to benefit from a one-time Seed Capital of Rs 2 lakh in tranches over the next three years under this scheme.
