Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses concern over the rise of deepfakes, citing them as the biggest threat in digital media and highlighting their potential to create societal chaos.
Addressing at the BJP’s Diwali Milan event at the party’s Delhi headquarters, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of vigilance by both citizens and media in preventing the misuse of artificial intelligence for creating deepfakes.
A multi- media news agency posted on X, PM says,“I watched my deep fake video in which I’m doing garba,” the prime minister said. “But the reality is that I have not done garba after my school life. Someone made my deepfake video.”

Modi also warned that deepfakes have the potential to trigger a significant crisis and escalate disaffection in a diverse society like ours.
Modi’s remarks follow the viral spread of a ‘deepfake’ video featuring actor Rashmika Mandanna on the internet. The initial video featured a British-Indian influencer, but it had been manipulated to replace their face with Mandanna’s.
