In a historic moment for Ugandan cricket, the national team secured qualification for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, marking their inaugural appearance in an ICC World Cup event. This achievement places Uganda among the elite teams and establishes them as the fifth African country to feature in the prestigious tournament.
The qualification was confirmed on Thursday, November 30, as Uganda triumphed in the Africa Region Qualifier, joining Namibia as the representatives from the continent in the upcoming T20 World Cup. This development underlines the growing prowess of African cricket on the global stage.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in West Indies and the USA in June next year, will witness participation from 20 teams—a significant expansion compared to previous editions. The inclusion of Uganda and Namibia adds a new dimension to the tournament, showcasing the diversity and competitiveness of cricket on the African continent.
With all 20 teams now confirmed for the mega event, the anticipation for the T20 World Cup continues to build. The participating teams, including powerhouses like West Indies, Australia, India, and others, will be divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8s, setting the stage for intense competition and thrilling encounters.
