Top Indian athlete Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal at the National Games 2022 in Gujarat on Friday. The 36th National Games officially began on Friday. Mirabai wins the gold medal with a total weight of 107 kg after forgoing her third attempt at the clean and jerk. Silver goes to her countrywoman Sanjita, and bronze to Sneha Soren of Odisha.
In the Women’s 49kg weightlifting event final, the gold winner from the Commonwealth Games 2022 overcame Sanjita Chanu to claim first place on the podium. Sneha Soren won bronze in this division.

On the other hand, Chanu won a silver medal in the 49kg division of the women’s weightlifting competition in the Tokyo Olympics the previous year. And with that, she became the first weightlifter from India to win an Olympic silver medal. Chanu also became the second weightlifter from India to earn an Olympic medal, following Karnam Malleswari, who won bronze in the 69 kg division at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the first time the weightlifting arena was available to female competitors.
Devender Singh of Services won the men’s 20 km race walk, and Munita Prajapati of Uttar Pradesh easily won the women’s competition.
In the gold medal match, Rudrankksh Patil defeated Arjun Babuta 17-7.
With a score of 261.8, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar takes home bronze.

After placing fourth in the men’s trap final of the ISSF Shotgun World Championship 2022 in Osijek, Croatia, on Wednesday, shooter Bhowneesh Mendiratta confirmed India’s first quota spot for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
