Virat Kohli now has 20 ODI tonnes in his possession. He has matched the record set by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who also has 20 centuries in the format at home – the most by any batter. Kohli became the fastest to 12500 ODI runs in 257 innings on his way to his 73rd international.

Kohli broke another record, this time surpassing Tendulkar. Kohli now has nine centuries against Sri Lanka after his 45th ODI century. It’s the most tonnes an Indian batter has ever scored against the islanders. Prior to the first ODI, Kohli and Tendulkar shared the record. Tendulkar and Kohli have each scored nine tonnes against Australia and the West Indies.

Kohli is widely regarded as one of the world’s best batsmen. Nonetheless, he has had a bit of a drought in terms of centuries on home soil. His last century in India came against Bangladesh in 2019, and he has come close on a few occasions since then but has fallen short.

Kohli, who scored his 72nd century in his last ODI, will bet on himself to end the barren run. While Ishan Kishan grabbed the headlines at the time, the 34-year-old got the monkey off his back in a spectacular performance. The Lankans will present a different challenge, and Kohli will want to get in on the action ahead of a home World Cup.

After the former India captain’s latest heroics, the fans at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati would scream a resounding ‘Yes’. Kohli smashed his 45th ODI tonne in 80 balls against Sri Lanka in the first ODI on Tuesday. His 73rd international century came in three formats. He has 27 Test tonnes and one T20I tonne. Kohli raced to the triple-figure mark in front of a raucous crowd at the Assam venue, hitting 10 fours and one six. In the 49th over, Kohli was out for 113 off 87 balls.
