Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to leave Manchester United by mutual consent, the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday. Ronaldo has come under fire for his recent interview with British journalist Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo slammed the club in a number of ways during the interview. He even claimed that some club executives are attempting to ‘force him out.’ United’s decision to part ways with Ronaldo appears to have been influenced by the explosive interview.

Following a recent television interview in which he stated that he felt “betrayed” by the club and had no respect for new manager Erik ten Hag, Portugal forward appeared to be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United forward, terminated his contract with the club on Tuesday, November 22nd, with immediate effect. The Premier League club issued a statement saying that both parties had reached an agreement and that the club wished Ronaldo the best of luck in his future endeavors.

The Portugal captain, who is currently in Qatar preparing for their World Cup opener, issued his own statement on Twitter, stating that his love for Manchester United and the fans had not changed. Ronaldo’s second tenure at the club was cut short by several controversies in the 2022/23 season, where he clashed with the manager and, eventually, with the club.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future,” Ronaldo said.

Ronaldo was at Manchester United for the second time, having joined Juventus prior to the start of the 2021-22 season. He first left Manchester United in 2009 to join Real Madrid, where he spent the next nine years of his career. He then spent three years with Juventus before returning to Manchester United.
