On November 24, a delegation of Meghalaya ministers led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand a CBI or NIA investigation into the violence that killed six people near the state’s border with Assam.
The Assam government, on the other hand, announced on Tuesday that the investigation into the violence along its disputed border with Meghalaya in West Karbi Anglong district would be handed over to a central or neutral agency.

An FIR has been filed in the case, and a special investigation team (SIT) led by the DIG of Eastern Range will be formed to investigate the incident, he said, adding that “the same will be handed over to a central agency once approved by the Centre.”
Sangma also stated that the delegation will meet with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi and submit a report on the incident in order for appropriate action to be taken.
Six people were killed in early Tuesday violence along the Assam-Meghalaya border in West Karbi Anglong district (West Jaintia Hills) after a truck transporting illegal timber was intercepted.
Following the seizure of a wood-laden truck, hundreds of Khasi people from Meghalaya chased and attacked forest workers and police officers. As a result, the cops were forced to open fire on the intruders. In the firing incident, three Khasis and a forester were killed.
