On May 11 two convicts from Silchar central jail managed to escaped from their life imprisonment cells, which left the Silchar administration and the entire state of Assam in shocked. However in recent development, Hizfur Rahman one of the escaped convicts, was traced near the Assam and Meghalaya border by Cachar police this morning. An alleged confrontation ensued, resulting in Rahman being shot and sustain fatal injuries. He was immediately rushed to Silchar Medical College Hospital , but the Doctor pronounced him dead.
Hizfur Rahman was convicted in the high-profilr Naz murder case. The case involved the abduction and subsequent murder of 20-year old student Ahrar Ahmed also known as Naz Ahmed. The victim was the son of Tofail Ahmed,President of AIUDF Badarpur.
According to the police sources, during the encounter near the Meghalaya border, Rahman attacked the police officials, prompting the police to respond with gunfire. While official conformation is still awaited and the SP of Cachar remain unreachable, sources have indicated that a couple of police officials sustained injuries during the altercation.
