Sikkim’s Supermodel cum Cop Eksha Kerung to Debut in Anshuman Jha’s Lakadbaggha

Eksha Kerung, a supermodel turned cop from Sikkim’s northeastern state, is set to make her film debut in Anshuman Jha’s Lakadbaggha.

Off-screen, Kerung is a police officer and professional boxer who will play a femme fatale in Victor Mukherjee’s directorial debut, which is being billed as India’s first film about an animal lover vigilante.

Eksha wrote in her Instagram post, “Dangerous. Ruthless. Femme Fatale. @ekshakerungofficial. #Lakadbaggha Trailer Out January 3rd. Action Begins January 13th, 2023 at a Theatre near you.”

Jha, who is acting in the film as well as producing it, says he has always admired the talent of the northeast. “Eksha has been a supermodel,” he says, a fan of action films about female assassins like Kill Bill. I approached her, and she agreed to an audition. She slipped into our world because she was a martial arts practitioner and kickboxer.” Jha refers to her character as the “girl with no name,” and she will be seen kicking, punching, and performing stunts similar to Kerung.

Sikkim’s Eksha Hangma Subba, also known as Eksha Kerung is 22-year-old woman works as a cop, supermodel, biker, and boxer. Growing up in Rumbuk village, she was introduced to combat sports and was unaware that boxing training was available in her village.

Eksha stated that it was her father who encouraged her to pursue her dream and passion. Her father invited her to join the physical fitness class. She’s even represented Sikkim in national competitions. Her enthusiasm for biking did not deter her from learning to ride. Her father, who was teaching her brother how to ride one, even encouraged her to learn it.

In 2019, she was hired by the Sikkim Police Department. In the interview, Eksha also stated that because Sikkim is a small state, getting a government job is extremely valuable, and she is currently the family’s sole breadwinner. She had to go through 14 months of discipline training before being transferred to the State Reserve Line.
