Isudan Gadhvi is to be the Aam Aadmi Party’s Chief Minister face for Gujarat. The AAP’s state unit president Gopal Italia and general secretary Manoj Soratihya were among those vying for the top job.

Gujarat will hold elections in two phases on December 1 and 5, with results being announced on December 8 along with Himachal Pradesh, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

Voting for 89 of Gujarat’s 182 assembly seats will take place on December 1 and the remaining 93 seats on December 5.

Gujarat has a 182-member assembly, and the BJP won 99 seats in the last elections, its sixth consecutive victory, while the Congress put up a valiant fight, taking 77 seats.

In percentage terms, the BJP received 49.05 percent of valid votes, while the Congress received 42.97 percent.

Following the assembly elections, the Congress suffered a wave of defections, while the BJP increased its House tally to 111. The Congress was reduced to 62 members.

Gujarat election dates are on schedule, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. Despite a two-week delay in announcing dates for the two states, Gujarat’s votes will be counted on the same day as Himachal Pradesh’s – December 8.

The Congress and other opposition parties have accused the election body of failing to announce the dates alongside Himachal Pradesh last month in order to give Prime Minister Narendra Modi time to finish his campaign in Gujarat before the model code of conduct kicks in.

More than 51,000 polling stations will be set up, with more than 34,000 in rural areas. The much-anticipated, high-stakes elections feature a three-way fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
