Delhi Mayor Election: After three failed election attempts, Delhi is likely to get a mayor today. While the numbers suggest that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has the post locked up, the BJP has hinted that a last-minute surprise is possible.
Voting for the new mayor of Delhi began on Wednesday as the municipal House met after three previous failed attempts to hold the election.
Meenakshi Lekhi and Hans Raj Hans of the BJP were among the first to vote.

Voting for the elections that will take place following AAP’s decisive victory in the Supreme Court has begun. The Mayor elections have been postponed three times since the December civic elections due to a protracted squabble between the AAP and the BJP.

The municipal House convened on Wednesday to elect the new mayor of Delhi, after a lengthy delay following the high-stakes civic elections.
The mayoral election is being held as a result of a Supreme Court order, following three previous failed attempts.
The municipal House is holding elections for mayor, deputy mayor, and six members of the standing committee, which began half an hour late at around 11.30 a.m.

AAP candidate Shelly Oberoi had petitioned the Supreme Court, questioning the BJP’s claim that aldermen (ten members nominated by the Lieutenant Governor) are eligible to vote in the election.
Nominated members cannot vote in the election, according to a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. “Nominated members are not eligible to vote. The constitutional provision is unequivocal “The bench took notice.
