CBI Raids Rabri Devi’s Patna Home: In connection with the alleged land-for-job’scam,’ a CBI team arrived at the home of former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi in Patna. According to preliminary reports, Rabri Devi was being questioned by officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam case, which is related to alleged corruption in accepting land in lieu of a job with Indian Railways.

In connection with an alleged land-for-jobs scam, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court summoned former Union Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, and 13 others last month.

The CBI filed the chargesheet against Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, and the 13 others in the alleged scam in October last year.

The questioning comes a day after eight Opposition parties wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of misusing central agencies for political purposes. Tejashwi Yadav, Ms Devi’s son and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, was among those who signed. Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav was named in the letter as one of the opposition leaders targeted by central agencies. The moves of central agencies “had frequently sparked suspicion that they were working as extended wings of the ruling dispensation,” it said.

Mr Yadav, Rabri Devi, and their daughters Misa and Hema are among those named in the CBI’s land-for-jobs case. The FIR, filed in May 2022, accuses Mr Yadav and his family members of buying land at bargain prices in exchange for jobs during his tenure as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.

The FIR names 12 people who allegedly received jobs in exchange for land, in addition to the veteran politician, his wife, and his daughters. Mr Yadav’s aide and former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Bhola Yadav was arrested in the case by the CBI in July last year.

According to the charge sheet, it was discovered during the investigation that the accused conspired with the then-GM Central Railways and CPO, Central Railways to engage persons as substitutes in lieu of land in their names or the names of their close relatives.
