Opposing Madrassa education for children, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said on Sunday, “Schools should provide modern education so that students find alternative ways to do anything in the future. Religious education can also be imparted at home. Entry into any religious institution should be at an age when children can make their own decisions. ‘
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Sunday strongly opposed Madrassa education by participating in the media mahamanthan organised by Panchjanya in New Delhi. Speaking at an event Chief Minister said, “The word Madrassa should be abolished. As long as the children go to Madrassa, no child can become a doctor-engineer. If a child was asked before admitting in a Madrassa no child will agree, and that admitting them to such religious schools is a violation of human rights. Even if you teach religious books for two to three hours at home, religious education should not be imparted in schools.”
I always advocate for non-existence of madrassas where religious inculcation is given priority over formal education.
