Sidhra Encounter: On Wednesday, at least three terrorists were killed in a “chance encounter” with security forces. A gunfight erupted this morning in the Sidhra bypass area of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, near Tawi bridge.

The three terrorists were driving a truck toward Kashmir when security forces pursued and stopped the vehicle near the Sidhra checkpoint. Terrorists opened fire from inside the truck as police began searching it.

“A suspicious movement of a truck on its way to Kashmir was observed. It was pursued and stopped near the Sidhra checkpoint, but its driver escaped under the guise of attending to nature’s call,” the J-K ADGP was quoted as saying by PTI.

The truck caught fire, and the terrorists were killed as a result of the encounter.

The location from which the terrorists infiltrated is being investigated. The officer said that once the truck is searched, a clear picture will emerge. Attempts are being made to apprehend the truck’s driver, who has fled.

The intense fighting between the two sides lasted more than 45 minutes, during which several explosions caused by grenade hurling were also heard. The truck, which was loaded with husk and was completely damaged in the gunfight, was seen blowing smoke.

Terrorists hiding inside the truck opened fire as soon as it came to a halt at a checkpoint. Security personnel on the scene immediately retaliated to the gunfire, killing the three terrorists on the spot. During the gun battle, the truck caught fire.
