CBI Arrests Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh In Corruption Case
The CBI has arrested former Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh, in the corruption case registered against him. Earlier, the agency had taken custody of Deshmukh’s personal assistant Kundan Shinde and secretary Sanjeev Palande, and dismissed assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze.

Earlier, the Bombay HC had refused to hear Anil Deshmukh’s plea. Deshmukh challenged the Special CBI court’s order that allowed CBI’s application seeking his custody in connection with an alleged corruption case.

Justice Dere directed that the plea be placed before another bench.

The Bombay HC has also rejected anticipatory bail pleas of two accused in the CBI case. The phones of these two people were tapped by IPS officer Rashmi Shukla who, according to her report, were part of the illegal transformer posting case.

The anticipatory bail applications were earlier rejected by Mumbai sessions court as well.

The CBI alleged that Anil Deshmukh was deliberately trying to evade custody of the agency. Therefore, he got himself admitted to state-run JJ hospital. The investigating agency made the claim during a hearing at a special court on Monday, April 4.

Anil Deshmukh, who was admitted to the orthopaedic ward, was discharged on Tuesday, hospital sources said.
The NCP leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in November 2021, in connection with a money laundering case.

A Mumbai court, last week, allowed the CBI to take his custody in a separate corruption case.

Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh, then home minister, had given a target to police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars in the city.

Deshmukh denied the allegations, but resigned from the state cabinet in April last year after the Bombay HC directed the CBI to register a case against him.
