Another earthquake of magnitude 6.0 strikes central Turkey, says USGS This is the Third earthquake in Turkey after two powerful earthquakes in less than 24 hours.
At least 1,500 people were killed when two powerful earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria within 12 hours of each other. The death toll is expected to rise, with search and rescue operations underway throughout the region as many buildings have collapsed and many people are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
Today’s Turkey Earthquake Live Updates: Early Monday morning, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria. The quake was centred about 33 kilometres (20 miles) from Gaziantep and 26 kilometres (16 miles) from the town of Nurdagi, according to the US Geological Survey. A second 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkey’s Kahramanmaras region hours later. Elbistan region of Kahramanmaras province was the epicentre of the quake, which occurred at a depth of 7 km. Later that evening, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes central Turkey.
At least 1,600 people were killed and thousands were injured, with the death toll expected to rise.

India and other countries are rushing to provide assistance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Turkey, a quake-hit country. “India stands in solidarity with the people of Turkey and is ready to offer all possible assistance in dealing with this tragedy,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. The government has decided to send rescue, medical, and relief teams.
The first quake’s epicentre was in Gaziantep, about 90 kilometres from the Syrian border. This is the region that is home to millions of Syrian refugees fleeing the civil war. The earthquake was felt all the way in Cairo. Continue scrolling down to read the most recent updates on what’s going on.

A minor earthquake rumbled through western New York, alarmed residents in an area unaccustomed to such shaking but causing no significant damage.
At about 6:15 a.m., the US Geological Survey reported a 3.8 earthquake centred east of Buffalo in the West Seneca suburb. According to seismologist Yaareb Altaweel, the quake was the strongest in the region in at least 40 years.
