Notably, under the RCS UDAN Scheme, PHL has been awarded 86 routes across six states.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s RCS UDAN Scheme aims to improve air connectivity in northeastern states with insufficient rail and road connectivity.

UDAN, an acronym for Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik, is a regional airport development programme under the Centre’s regional connectivity scheme that aims to refurbish under-served airports in order to make air travel more affordable.

The Centre has been improving regional air connectivity in recent years through UDAN, which focuses on connecting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

The scheme offers viability gap funding, which is a type of financial assistance, to airlines that have been chosen through a bidding process to operate flights on underserved or unserved routes.
